As promised by Governor Prof. John Lonyangapuo to provide improved and better health services, he has officially commissioned a fully equipped Renal Unit at Kapenguria County Referral Hospital.
The unit which is equipped with modern hemodialysis equipment will provide lifesaving dialysis and related services for patients suffering from End Stage Renal Disease.
This will be relief as it will reduce the resources and costs that West Pokot County residents use to seek treatment at Moi Teaching and Refferal Hospital Eldoret
Furthermore, two doctors, 8 nurses, a technician and a nutritionist are already trained on how to run the unit and additional health workers will receive training as the county government plans to expand the 5-bed capacity unit.
Dr. Philip Cheptinga, a nephrologist from MTRH who was in in attendance commended the county government for efforts made in improving the health services in the county especially the operationalization of the renal Unit and stressed that Kapenguria County Referral Hospital will be working closely with MTRH to ensure the unit adequately serves not only residents of West Pokot but also patients from other regions.
Also present at the event were Geoffrey Lipale(CEC Health), COs Milka Psiwa (sanitation and emergencies), Jonathan Karita (health services) and Mary Ngoriakes (culture) among other county officials.
