Governor Prof. John Lonyangapuo has urged Boda Boda operators to develop a strong saving culture as the industry is fast becoming an economic giant in the region.
Speaking during the official opening of the Boda Boda Savings and Credit Cooperative Sacco office in Makutano today, the governor said that his administration is keen on supporting small businesses through incentives such as loans through WEPESA SACCO.

While also handing over a Kshs. 2 million cheque to boost the Sacco, Prof. Lonyangapuo called for unity among the operators as the county government continues to empower them, and urged them to aim for more lucrative ventures that would enable them to become successful entrepreneurs and contribute towards the county’s economy.

Boda boda industry contributes enormously to the growth of our economy and has been instrumental in providing platform for self employment. It is therefore imperative that we relook into our programmes to accommodate this sector and harness its potential fully. I urge all operators to register their motorcycles with their leadership in West Pokot so that rogue elements are weeded out.
Boda Boda Savings and Credit Cooperative scheme is aimed at giving opportunity to the operators to save and invest for their future by making a daily contribution of Kshs 50. Members of the scheme will benefit from discounted rates from WEPESA SACCO.

Earlier on, 17 Boda boda operators received their motorbikes through West Pokot Economic Sacco (WEPESA) in Makutano Township, bringing the number to over 300 motorcycles purchased through 'Pata Bodaa na WEPESA' product.
Governor lauded the formation of the investment scheme and pledged continued county government support to the sector which he applauded as a key mover of the county’s economy.
