Governor Prof. John Lonyangapuo launched a mass animal vaccination exercise along the Kenya- Uanga border animals against the Contagious Bofine PleuroPneumonia (CBPP). The exercise follows an earlier meeting in Kapenguria with leaders from Amudat District, with an aim to vaccinate animals ahead of the onset of rainy season which sees the migration of animals back to North Pokot from Uganda.

The exercise, funded by West Pokot County and Amudat District in Uganda, is aimed at stopping the spread of the disease, improving animal health and strengthening cross-border collaboration and coordination in the semi-arid region.
Governor Lonyangapuo said the two countries will ensure the region is an animal disease-free zone and the exercise will improve the immunity of livestock and boost productivity.

The exercise which will take 6 days along the border will target 100,000 cows for vaccination aimed at preventing cross border spread of animal diseases with 24 veterinary officers leading the vaccination. The same exercise will thereafter take place on the Kenyan side.
Ugandan leadership led by Mr. Michael Pwalatum-Regional District Commissioner Amudat appreciated the exercise and said it had come at the right time as the exercise has meet one of the resolutions made at Entebbe Meeting in Uganda. The resolutions made were to ensure resource sharing and other cross border activities with animal vaccination being one of such activities along the border of Kenya and Uganda.

Present during the exercise were Hon.Mark Lomunokal MP Kacheliba, LCV Amudat Lopot Joseph, CECM Agriculture Lipale Geoffrey, Chief Officer Issaih Pendou among other officers from both Kenya and Uganda.
