FIRST LADY SCOVIA KACHAPIN CELEBRATES INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY, 2023

International Women’s Day is marked annually on 8th March to commemorate women's achievements and raise awareness about gender disparities and discrimination, as well as promote global support for women. 
The first lady Scovia Chebet Kachapin together with the second lady Christine Komolle started off this day by visiting women prisoners at Kapenguria women prison. They celebrated with them in an event that was colorful and impressive. The inmates staged some moments of happiness as they showcased their great talents.
While delivering her speech, the first lady acknowledged that women are the driving forces of the world and without them our existence is impossible. She urged them to stay positive as they mark the day like other women outside prison.
The first lady gifted them an assortment of foodstuffs, blankets and clothes. She also promised to deliver two tailoring machines to bolster their training in tailoring. The prisoners who were overjoyed appreciated the first lady for remembering them - an action they termed humane.
Later, the first lady together with the second lady proceeded to Kitelakapel, Riwo ward in Kapenguria Constituency to join women and Civic Society Organizations and partners to commemorate the day.
In her speech, the first lady praised women as achievers, believers and people who persevere for the benefit of their families. She further urged them to be courageous and vie for political positions which are mostly male dominated.
"What a man can do, a woman can do better. I encourage you to take up leadership positions in the county because we are also able." She said.
The first lady was accompanied by Chief Officer for Special programs Mrs. Lilian Korinyang and county staff from department of gender. Also present were; Riwo ward MCA Hon. David Alukulem and MCA for Siyoi ward Hon. Esther Serem.
