GOVERNOR KACHAPIN ATTENDS A CONSULTATIVE MEETING ON IMPLEMENTATION OF DONOR FUNDED PROJECTS ON LIVESTOCK SECTOR

Governor Simon Kachapin joined fellow governors in Nairobi for a consultative meeting on the implementation of donor-funded projects in the livestock sector.
The meeting sought to provide strategic direction on the implementation of the De-risking, Inclusion and Value Enhancement of Pastoral Economies in the Horn of Africa (DRIVE) project and other livestock related projects that include; the Kenya Livestock Commercialization Project, Dairy Commercialization Project among others.
The project will enable the region to adapt to the impacts of climate change, commercialize livestock production in pastoralist communities, and ensure inclusion of the marginalized and vulnerable groups such as women in the sector.
Through its $572 million funding in private capital, pastoralists will also tap into drought insurance and savings, get access to digital accounts, and attract more private investment in pastoral areas.
Also present in the meeting was the Principal Secretary Livestock Development Harry Kimtai, who assured the governors of the departments commitment to collaborate with counties in the implementation of the donor- funded projects.
About 2,500 pastoralists groups are expected to be connected to markets to ensure they get better value from their livestock rearing activities.
